Dovedale

Start: Thorpe Road, Ilam village, Ashbourne, (DE6 2AZ) Grid ref. SK 136 509

(S/E) At Ilam Cross take Thorpe road and continue straight (East) with the river on your right hand side until seeing a footpath on your left. Take the footpath and continue for around 200m before turning left (North). Continue straight until reaching another path, turn second right (East) and continue on this path until reaching the River Dove.

(1) Take left on the path following the river (on your right) to cross using the stepping stones; otherwise use the footbridge here to cross. Keep straight until reaching the steeping stones and then cross the river. Take left to now follow the river which should be on your left hand side. Keep straight following the river until reaching another footbridge at the bottom of Pickering Tor.

(2) Cross the bridge and take right (North) to continue following the river (now on your right hand side). Continue straight until seeing a footpath on your left that follows a dry stone wall at the end of Hurt's wood.

(3) Take that footpath on the left (West) and continue straight until reaching another footpath in front of you. Take left to arrive at the road.

(4) Take left, and walk on the road (South) for around 4 Km until reaching the road intersection with Lodge lane.

(5) Take left on the road to walk down Ilam village and the car (S/E)
