Route K in Plitvice National Park

Plitvice National Park is one of Croatia’s two most famous national parks. The colour of its lakes is magnificent, as are the waterfalls. For those who enjoy swimming, please note that swimming is prohibited here to protect the environment. The paths are very well signposted and well-maintained.

Description of the walk

Car park 2 is situated 10 minutes’ walk further up; it’s very large and costs €2 per hour.

After passing the ‘checkpoint’, follow the orange ‘K’ route. The green route is the same but starts from Gate 1 of the park.

If you’re feeling tired, you can take the shuttle boat after the ascent to the middle lake.

Next, you’ll tackle some slightly steeper slopes, but the view from the summit is well worth the effort.

Waypoints

  1. S/E : mi 0 - alt. 2,041 ft - Set off from Gate 2 of the park, which is next to its car park.
  2. S/E : mi 10.59 - alt. 2,041 ft - Return to the same Gate 2 of the park

Notes

Remember to take plenty of water with you

There are no water points in the park except in the toilets.

Worth a visit

Everything is magnificent.

It’s worth starting by walking along the lake before reaching the largest of the waterfalls. You’ll get your bearings over a distance of about 3 km.
