Circuit des Trois Pierres

A lovely walk through the Charentais vineyards, passing beautiful buildings and around the village of Roissac.
Angeac- Champagne counts numerous prosperous-looking Charentais houses, witness to the wealth which lies in the local economy producing cognac, its principal occupation. The entrances to the estates are marked by a gate or porch way: there are at least 50. They are unique and typical of our local heritage. At Roissac village they embellish the main street.

Description of the walk

Access: At Angeac-Champagne village take the small road towards the hamlets, Chez Pasqueraud and l’Echalotte. Just before Chez Pasqueraud take a left onto a small road, then the first right leading to the picnic area called Trois Pierres, with a tennis court, pétanque court and parking.

(S/F) With your back to the ford, walk a few meters, turn left on the small road and continue to follow it. Further on take a path to the left and continue straight on to the D44.

(1) Cross the D44, continue opposite on the white chalk path. Continue straight ahead, ignoring a path on the left, until a crossroads. Continue straight ahead. At the T-junction, with a smaller tarmac path, head off to the left, then left again.

(2) Just after, when this path turns right, leave it to continue straight ahead a grassy path. It leads to a section of tarmac at Chez Guimbelot. Continue straight ahead to meet up with the grassy path and follow its direction. A little further, after a building on the left, the route turns right and leads once again to a tarmac route, then comes out onto a small road.

(3) Turn right towards the houses in the hamlet of La Gore, ignore the road heading off to the right and continue left alongside an agricultural building. The tarmac becomes a good track. This turns into a double left/right road then becomes straight.

(4) At the T-junction turn left onto a good chalk track. Ignore the road which comes in on the right and continue straight ahead. The track becomes a small road.

(5) At the following intersection, cross the road and continue on the chalk path. When it's joined up by a small road on the right, continue and head off gently to the left to enter Rue des Grandes Versennes in Roissac. Disregard two roads on your left and continue straight ahead to the main street. Turn left onto this road.

(6)At the first crossroads, continue straight ahead to the following crossroads. One is near Fontaine François 1st. Turn left, then at the following junction, take a right then just after another intersection take another right turn. A little further, ignore the road on your right and keep going straight ahead towards the Chateau de Roissac. At the crossroads, opposite the chateau, follow down a small road which climbs up towards the grapevines. The road gradually turns into a track, then a grassy path, which you'll follow to cross the vineyard. A little further the track becomes a trail which heads back down, winding through the grapevines. You'll reach a road a road.

(7)Turn left on this road then take the first small road on the right. Once you get nearby a grapevine on the left, go past and continue for several meters more before taking a small trail on the left which leads to a copse of trees and follows alongside it until meeting up with a small road. Turn left to cross the small stream, ford, or on the footbridge, before arriving at the picnic area Trois Pierres (S/F) your starting point.

Easy route, but the only point of interest is Roissac and its fountain.
Otherwise too many roads and straight lines.
Thanks to Grand Cognac for putting this walk on visorando.

The walk is always in the open, so not to be done in hot weather. Two points of interest: the village of Roissac and the leisure centre where we were able to eat after the walk (picnic table).

Hello;
We did this walk after a period of heavy rain. We enjoyed being able to walk on paths that were in good condition, despite some very wet stretches, fortunately we had good shoes. We were also able to spot some animals and birds. The start of the basse de loisirs is very easy to access and park. The villages of Angeac Champagne and Roissac are typical of the Charente region.

Please note that the path alongside the Château de Roissac (at point 6 on the map) has a lot of graffiti on the pillars of the castle wall.

Have a nice walk. Best regards.

Roissac remains the only point of interest on the walk, with a long white path at the start and far too many tarmac roads...

We've tried to replace the tarmac sections with dirt tracks and we've lengthened the circuit to around 13km.

We'll be testing this new course in March.
