Start from the church car park on the main street in Zittersheim.
Signposting: blue ring markers all along the route.
(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left towards the church, heading south-east, then south-west for a few dozen metres. Turn left onto a narrow path between two properties. When you reach the playground, turn right and you will arrive at the Neumatt spring.
(1) Spring 1 - Neumatt Spring. Go around the playground and you will see a sign indicating Spring 2 "Kindelsbrunn accès en cours d'aménagement" (access under construction) (the spring is not visible and is probably located in the wasteland). Continue following the blue circle markings (which will not change) until you reach Rue de la Fontaine. Turn right towards the east and walk a few metres until you see the village fountain on your left.
(2) Source 3 - Village fountain. Take Rue de la Fontaine east towards the forest. Turn right at the intersection just before the forest, where you will find Source 4.
(3) Source 4 - Brandberg spring. Turn right onto the path that climbs into the forest towards the east and follow the blue circle markings. You will have a view of Lichtenberg Castle and Wimmenau in dry, fog-free weather (which was not the case for me). Continue south-west, then west.
(4) Zittersheim Rock. Continue south. Source 5 of Kuhberg is somewhere nearby, but I didn't see it when I passed by. If you see it, feel free to add a waypoint.
(5) Source 6 - Senntal spring. Continue north, then north-west.
(6) Source 7 - Source of the Weinberg. Continue north. Source 8 of the Tal, which I didn't see on the way, is somewhere around here. If you see it, feel free to add a waypoint. You will arrive at the summit where there are meadows. Cross the meadows heading southwest. You will see some rather curious cows (in summer). Walk to the road. You are now at a place called "Moderfeld". Continue along the road heading north-west. On your right, you will see a small path between the houses that leads to the source of the Moder.
(7) Source 9 - Source of the Moder. Return to the road and follow it to the right heading north (still following the blue circle).
(8) Please note that this landmark is not very visible. At this point, turn right into the field and pass under an electric fence surrounding a cow pasture. Walk along the field for about 100 metres and turn right at the tree (where you will see the signpost), cross the field heading east and continue into the forest.
(9) Samuel Dougherty Memorial. Continue downhill towards the east.
(10) Source 10 - Source of the Birnbaumtal. Continue to the intersection, then turn right onto the path that climbs south-west, then take a path heading south.
(11) Source 11 - Source of the Moderthal. Follow the marked trail and then return to the path. Continue along the path, this time heading northeast, and retrace your steps. Continue along this path heading east, which then becomes a paved road that runs alongside ponds and crosses meadows. Continue to the next intersection, then turn right and continue for a few metres heading southwest. Next, cross the road (still following the signs) and take the path that descends into the fields. In the middle of the field, the path turns towards the village. Continue straight ahead through the field and do not follow the path (however, at this point, I had to go under an electric fence for cows). At the bottom of the field, near the trees, leave the fenced area and turn left towards the northeast. You will arrive at the communal pond fed by underground springs.
(12) Source 12 - Sources of the communal pond. Follow the pond to the chalet, then go up the path on the right and immediately turn right into the field (another electric fence). Follow the field and the forest in a south-westerly direction until you reach the path. Follow the signposted path, pass the "Dorfmatt" pond and turn right towards the church (S/E).
the path from 5 to 6 is tricky in my opinion.
the signpost (blue circle) is no longer there, the marked tree has been cut down)
