Remonot Discovery Route

Remonot is a small hamlet in the commune of Les Combes. Situated on the banks of the Doubs, in the Pays Horloger, this village has everything to offer: surrounded by the Jura mountains, it is a pleasure to stroll along these country lanes in search of little gems. The most remarkable heritage site is none other than the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Remonot, situated within a vast cavern 30 metres deep. Within this cavern are four springs, one of which is said to possess miraculous properties. The site is still used for worship today. The route also takes you past the Church of the Holy Spirit and, nearby, the Remonot viewpoint, which offers views of the highest gorges of the Doubs. The walk along the river’s right bank takes you past a drinking trough and a hand pump.

Description of the walk

Start the walk at the car park by Remonot Cemetery.

(S/E) Enter the cemetery, then at the junction in the centre, turn sharply right to come out onto Route de la Colombière. Cross the railway line and arrive at a junction.

(1) Turn right twice to take Rue du Vieux Chalet. At the end, turn left to cross the D437 very carefully and head straight across the Remonot Bridge.

(2) Cross the Doubs and head straight across to the junction to take Rue du Moulin. At the fork, turn left to reach the drinking trough and the hand pump.

(3) Turn left to stay on Rue du Moulin. At the fork, head down to the left to reach the Pont de Remonot. Cross the bridge to rejoin the D437.

(2) Turn right and walk alongside it on the right, taking great care. You will reach the Remonot Cave Chapel (located to the left of the road).

(4) Return to the Pont de Remonot via the same route.

(2) Cross the main road carefully and continue all the way to the right towards the church. Stay on this path until you reach the viewpoint. Leave the grassy path on your right and head towards the Church of the Holy Spirit and the war memorial.

(5) Return to the viewpoint and take the grassy path running alongside it on the left. Pass a junction on the left and reach the Route de la Colombière. Walk down this road carefully. At the first crossroads, turn left onto the path called "Le Champ Quaresse". At the T-junction, turn left and reach the junction from the outward journey.

(1) Turn right to return to the cemetery car park via the reverse route of the outward journey (S/E).
