Park your car next to the bins as you leave the village of Piégut on the left.
(S/E) The path starts straight ahead, climbing gradually towards the south-east.
(1) At the fork in the road, turn right, following the yellow markings (PR®) on the trees. After crossing a stream, leave the path on the right and continue uphill, following the yellow markings.
(2) After 300 to 400 metres, take the path leading down to the right, which is still marked in yellow. You’ll emerge from the woods into an open area; continue towards Venterol, following the cross-country ski trail markings and the yellow markings. Pass thePR® “Tour des Hautes Terres” on your left
(3) At the junction, turn left, gradually climbing southwards. Stay on the main path and ignore the paths on the left as you continue to climb. You will soon reach a Fork in the road. Take the path on the left that climbs and carry on to another junction.
(4) Turn left (Discovery Trail). 600 metres further on, you’ll find the Fontainiers spring. Continue along the main path, passing a cross-country ski trail branching off to the left. After a hairpin bend to the right, you’ll come across another cross-country ski signpost directing you to the left.
(5) Follow it to the gate and carry on straight ahead. The track levels out and begins to descend from here, offering a magnificent view of the Champsaur and Gapencais mountains on a clear day. It leads to another gate.
(6) Take the path leading down to the left, then, at the next junction, turn sharply left again. After walking for about 1 km 200, you’ll come across a sign on the left; this marks the only path leading back to the starting point, which shortens the route. Carry on straight ahead until the next Fork in the road.
(7) On the descent, take the path that climbs up to the left. Be careful not to miss it! The markings remain visible for a further 1 km before disappearing onto a path leading down to the right.
(8) At this junction, turn left onto the forest track which climbs for about 1 km to the next gate. Beyond this gate, the track descends to the starting point.
(9) At the fork in the road, 1 km further down, turn left through a 180° bend. This path winds its way down, makes a wide left-hand bend and arrives at a three-way junction.
(10) Carry on to the left and rejoin the original path, just after a gate.
(1) Carry on straight ahead to return to your car (S/E).
