We followed this route on 1 August, setting off at around 6 pm. It’s a very pleasant walk: although there’s a slight climb at the start, you then get to enjoy the flat terrain as you make your way through the forest. The few roads we took were very quiet (at least on the day we were there).

The real highlight: the section taking you past a reconstruction of First World War trenches, with a very moving reminder of the famous football matches organised in no man’s land between the Germans and the Allies during the Christmas Truce.

I highly recommend it!
