Park near Gerderest church and the cemetery.
(S/E) Turn your back on the church and take the Route de Monassut. Pass through the hamlet of L’Espérou and continue along the road.
(1) After the bridge over the Grand Lées, turn left between a pasture and a field. At the end of the pasture, veer to the right to follow the Grand Lées and then a tributary stream.
(2) Once you reach the tarmac road, turn left, then, 50 metres further on, turn right, and, 25 metres further on, turn left again onto a path. Walk under the trees, then take the first path on the left. The path curves to the left before joining a road.
(3) Follow the road; the Chemin du Bois branches off to the right. Pass through the hamlet of Carrau and cross a stream – another tributary of the Grand Lées – called the Arriou Maybé. At the Fork in the road, continue to the right onto the Chemin du Stade.
(4) Immediately afterwards, follow a track suitable for vehicles to the left. Further on, this track runs alongside the Grand Lées towpath. Continue along the stream on your left.
(5) At the top of the hill, turn left; then, at the junction with a track, keep left and head downhill to the Grand Lées, which you cross again via a bridge.
(6) Head back up towards Abère, passing through the hamlets of Hourcade and Bordenave.
(7) At the junction with the road, turn left towards the village of Abère. A little further on, take the second street on the left, and immediately afterwards, turn right.
(8) At the church, turn left. Then take the second path on the right.
(9) At the bottom of the slope, carry on straight towards the stream – another tributary of the Grand Lées – which you’ll need to wade across.
Head back up the path on the left to the dairy farm (where you can stop and watch Marie-Christine milking the cows and buy some milk from her).
(10) Cross the road and, at the end of the path, turn left, then carry on along this path, ignoring a road on the left.
(11) At the crossroads, turn left, passing the ham farm (where you can buy cured meats from free-range pigs). Ignore a road on the right, then, at the next crossroads (town hall), turn right to return to the church (S/E).
