Azro Akechar

Shortest route to the summit of Azro Akechar, the region's little-known highest point. Views of several surrounding areas.

The path is unmarked, some sections have been worked on, cairns may sometimes indicate the direction, but all this may change over time.

Description of the walk

The car park is accessible from Tizi Ousli by turning right off the road onto a track after a few dozen metres (dirt car park). You can fill up with water at a fountain on the side of the paved road about 20 metres after this exit.

(S/E) Head south-east, following a track that soon gives way to a footpath. Cross a small area of scrubland.

(1) Continue south-east on the path, which becomes shaded, and climb uphill. After a left-hand bend, you will reach a crossroads.

(2) Turn left (north-northeast) and quickly reach the ruins of a colonial-era observation post. View to the north over Al Hoceima Bay, the Abdelkrim Elkhattabi Dam (and the sea in very good weather), Kaceta and Azlaf.

(3) Turn left and climb south-east to reach the summit. View south-east towards Tizi Ousli, Tizi Oudhan and Ajdir.

(4) Turn right at an acute angle and descend to the intersection you took earlier.

(2) Take the same route as on the way up, in reverse, to return to the car park (S/E).
