Description of the route

Illegal parking at Le Queury in Le Grand Cougour.

(S/E) Follow the tarmac road to the left as far as the Grand Cougour railway bridge (road on the right – dead end).

(1) Turn right and, 50m further on, turn left at the junction until you reach the Stop sign.

(2) Turn left towards Lignerolles onto the tarmac road (D304). Cross the D605 (take care) towards Bourg de Lignerolles. Pass the cemetery and arrive at the weighbridge.

(3) Turn right towards Rillat onto the tarmac road. Pass the Croix du Mont and arrive at the D993.

(4) Cross the road and take the Route de Rillat opposite, continuing to the junction.

(5) Take the dirt track opposite towards Les Communaux de Coursage. Continue straight ahead.

(6) La Croix d’Ayardoux (highest point of the walk). At the junction, turn right towards Prémilhat. At the entrance to the village, leave the road on your left and turn right until you reach the next junction at a place called La Naute, just after the Chemin des Clodits.

(7) Take the small dirt track on the left. Cross the D605, walk past the sports complex and, further on, ignore a path on the left. You’ll come to a crossroads.

(8) Take a dirt track on the left, go straight on to cross the D240 and arrive at the Vieux Moulin de Sault. Turn right towards the pond (do not cross the bridge).

(9) Continue straight on along the pond to the embankment near the campsite.

(10) Continue straight on along the pond and go round it, taking a circular loop to the left on a dirt track.

(11) Back at the pond’s embankment, continue straight on to the wooden footbridge at the far end of the pond in the fishing reserve.

(9) Turn left and continue to the embankment by the campsite.

(10) Turn right onto the D605. At the next junction, keep left and continue to the roundabout.

(12) Head straight on towards the waste disposal site.

(13) At the junction, turn left then take the dirt track straight ahead in front of the buildings. Pass three tracks on the left, cross a small road and return to a junction you passed on the way out.

(8) Turn left, then right, and continue to the D605.

(14) Turn left onto the D605, a tarmac road, towards Ouches. Go through the village and continue straight on. Cross the D993 (take care) and reach a Fork in the road.

(15) Leave the D605 and turn left towards La Ganne - Issac.

(16) At the bend after Issac, leave the road and take the dirt track on the left which enters the Bois d'Issac. At the end of this, turn right then cross the D305 further on to reach the Petit Cougour.

(17) Turn right onto the road, then turn left at the junction.

(1) Once at the three-way junction, keep left to reach the car park (S/E).

Thanks, MARTIchou07
The problem is that, for the moment, we only use the term ‘mountain biking’ to describe a cycle route. Authors need to include a few comments so that cyclists know what they’re getting into.
Nevertheless, as you say, it’s essential to plan your ride carefully to minimise any unpleasant surprises.

Hello
We went on this ride and were very pleased to have found a medium-difficulty mountain bike route of around 20km. We were rather disappointed to find that up to point 5 it was exclusively on tarmac roads; however, from point 5 onwards, the trails are splendid, especially at this time of year when the colours are fabulous.
In our opinion, this route would be more suitable for hybrid cyclists
Thank you all the same for this route; from now on we’ll take more time to read and analyse the route before choosing it
Thanks again to those who took the time to write it up.
Because, as we know, criticism is easy but the art is difficult
Best regards
