Along the water’s edge in Pléneuf-Val-André

Cycle and discover the picturesque charm of the countryside and the remnants of centuries past, which punctuate this cycle route—entirely on roads, though not without its challenges. Once you’ve left Pléneuf-Val-André, charming little tree-lined roads and hedgerow-lined paths await you. Keep your eyes peeled, as it’s around the bends that you’ll spot old wash houses and chapels.

For cyclists, you’ll have even more time to take in these landscapes at your own pace.

Description of the route

Access:
By car, park on Boulevard Kennedy in the car park right next to the Mille Club community hall.
By bus, during the summer season (5 July to 24 August), the “Les Estivales – 5” shuttle bus serves the “Mille Club Kennedy” stop.

The route starts opposite the Collège Jean Richepin on Boulevard Kennedy.

(S/E) Head down the boulevard, then at the first junction, go straight on towards Pléneuf-Centre. At the Stop sign, continue straight on along Rue des Villes Méliguen.

(1) At the next stop sign, carry on straight ahead, then cross over to Rue du Petit Train. Follow the cycle path to the stop sign next to the Minihy campsite. Continue left along Rue du Minihy for about a hundred metres, then turn left.

(2) Head up Rue de la Cour to the left for nearly 1 km. At the second roundabout, after the cemetery, turn right and head down the road. Once you reach the bottom, take the first right to cross over the River Flora.

(3) At the junction, turn left towards ‘le Temple’, then follow this tree-lined road up to the Stop sign. Turn left.

(4) At the end of the descent, cross the road to the opposite side, then turn right after crossing a small stone bridge. Follow this country lane for less than 600 metres. At the junction, take the road on the left for about 1 km, and when you reach the Stop sign, take the cycle path on the right.

(5) At the roundabout, take the first right. Continue straight on and, at the ‘Give Way’ sign, cross to the opposite side, keeping slightly to the right, into the street indicated by the ‘Les Rues’ village entrance sign. Follow this street to the ‘Stop’ sign, then turn right.

(6) At the four-way junction, turn left, then, once you reach the Stop sign, cross the departmental road to head opposite, towards Cargré.

(7) Follow the Route de Bien-Assis all the way along, for nearly 800 metres. At the Stop sign, turn right and continue until you reach the 90° left-hand bend.

(8) Take the track on the right to join the Vélomaritime. At the end of the track, turn right, then left towards the cross where there is a bench. Continue to Pré Mancel.

(9) Stay on the road and follow the bend to the left. Then, at the three-way junction, continue to the right until you reach a ‘Stop’ sign.

(10) Carry on to the left and keep cycling straight ahead, staying on the same road for 3 km. Once you’ve entered Pléneuf-Val-André, at the roundabout, carry on straight ahead to return to the starting point in front of the Collège Jean Richepin (S/E).

Worth a visit

Onthe narrow country lanes, cycle alongside the hedgerows that form a true treasure trove of biodiversity in the Breton countryside. These hedgerows are home to numerous animal and plant species, which contribute to the richness of these environments.

After descending from Le Temple, you’ll cross the Vallée Bridge, a structure dating from thesecond half of the 19th century. Built of granite and sandstone, it spans the Flora, a small, tranquil river trickling peacefully between its fern-lined banks.

Although the ‘Au fil de l’Eau’ route does not venture that far, do feel free to take a detour to Plage de la Ville Berneuf to enjoy a magnificent view of the bay, Erquy and its headland.

The Chapelle Saint-Mathurin is worth a look on the final stretch of this cycle route. This modest chapel dates from 1753, as indicated on the building, and its name means that it is dedicated to Saint Mathurin, the patron saint of sailors.
