Description of the walk

(S/E) Look North from the layby where you parked and you will see a lane on your left (West) nearby the junction between Slaley main street and B6306. Follow the lane.

At a field boundary you can either carry on straight ahead or continue following the lane South-West. Straight ahead takes you through the middle of a crop field though.

(1) If you have followed the lane turn right North when you reach the road. Follow the road until you see two pillars on your left. Turn down there West. Follow the lane down through Palm Strothers Farm, then there will be a gate in front of you. Go through the gate.

(2) Keep straight ahead West and there will be a small foot bridge over a stream. Keep straight ahead West past East Dukesfield.

At the road (Middle Dukesfield), turn left South-South-East. Follow the road and when you get to some trees on your left, you can go through a gate into the trees and follow the track through. But you can also stick to the road which is a little easier.

(3) At the end of the road turn left (East) and after a few hundred yards you will see a public footpath sign into the trees (South-East). Follow the footpath through the trees. When you reach the road, turn right (South) and follow the road until you see a road on your left into Spring House caravan park.

(4) Follow this track (East). Pass on the right of the caravan park and above it still heading East. Keep following up signs to the right of the trees until you reach Cocklake Farm.

(5) Turn left here through a gate (North-East). When you get to a road follow the path straight ahead (North) behind Blue Gables Farm.

(6) At the next road you come to (B6306), turn left (North) to take you up the hill and back to the layby where you parked. Careful up the hill as cars come down fast. (S/E)

Tried this walk today as we were at Springhouse Caravan Park. Whilst there we noticed the route went just past the site and it was circular. So off we trooped. Took a few minutes to find the start as it is just inside the caravan park area. But once found it was a doddle. Never seen so many rabbits in the start area! Then the weather has been good for a few days so apart from one small section there was next to no mud. Saw other animals too and a tiny deer when nearing the end of the walk. Didn't time it exactly but took us 2 hours or a bit more before we safely got back to the caravan site in time for a glass of wine.

It was a very enjoyable walk. Easy to follow apart from near the campsite. You have to follow the map. Enter the campsite and keep to the right of the first caravan. Along a clear path up the hill. It says unmaintained area. But it's fine and is the footpath. A sign by the entrance to the campsite would be useful.
