Al Tuc de Bélaye

A pretty 12 km trail, almost entirely in the woods, which is pleasant in summer. There aren't many viewpoints, but this circuit allows you to discover the pretty village of Grézels and, once you reach Le Tuc, you can see the Lot river below.

Description of the route

Park in the large car park at the foot of the church in the village of Bélaye.

(S/E) Join the Route du Boulé (D50) and turn right. Pass the hamlet of Bellegarde and follow the vineyards on your right. The road enters the woods. Just before you reach the woods, look for a clearing on the left (Marty) and take the track on the right (about 1.5 km from the start).

(1) Leave the road and take the track on the right which descends and then climbs up to another road.

(2) At the Ons block of houses, follow the road to the left for about 200 m.

(3) At the fork, turn right onto the wide track that runs between the vineyards.

(4) At the end of the track, go around the vineyard to the left and take a grassy path (signposted) on the right that follows the edge of the woods. Join the access road to Séguala and continue straight ahead.

(5) At the Malbouyssou crossroads, turn right onto the beautiful wide path, which is sometimes a track and sometimes a trail. Follow this beautiful trail. Shortly after Pech Lasfargues, on the left, a few views of the Saint-Matré valley remind you that you are on the ridge, then you descend towards Grézels.

(6) Turn right and cross the stream. At the first crossroads, climb up to the right, then turn right again into the lane that leads to the church.

(7) In front of the church, take the path on the left marked "Al Tuc", which becomes a road and climbs up to the Château de la Coste, around which it runs.

(8) The climb is steep and ends at a few houses that you may hesitate to pass through. However, your route crosses these farms and continues opposite on a track.

(9) At the intersection, take the right fork and continue straight ahead to reach the point called "Al Tuc", which is the highest point of the route.

(10) Try to see the Lot below you through the trees. From now on, you will follow it to the end without ever seeing it. It's a shame because we are on a cliff overlooking it from 30 metres above. Follow the wide white track in front of you. Leave the Al Tuc farm above you.

(11) Leave the track on your right and take the left fork. Follow the road above the one you took at the start, which will take you back to the church car park (S/E).

Notes

Take plenty of water with you as it can get hot in summer, even though this route is mostly shaded. If it has rained in the days before your hike, the paths will not be muddy, but there will be a few large puddles that will take time to dry up. These can easily be avoided.

By mountain bike, it will take you 1½ hours, but this is only an estimate and includes a visit to the Port de Grézels.
This route can be done on foot; it will take 2½ hours without visiting the port, but without rushing either.

Worth a visit

Visit the village of Grézels and walk down to Port de Grézels, which adds a good kilometre to the round trip.

Two beautiful little villages to discover! An easy hike with no major difficulties; just follow the yellow markings and the clearly visible signs. The route consists mainly of trails and very shaded paths, mostly through the woods with a few sections on roads. However, this circuit is shared with mountain bikes, so be careful—we came across motorbikes there!

We hesitated before doing this trail, which is recommended for mountain bikes... but it turned out to be a very pleasant walk for hikers, with wide paths mostly in the woods.
(We didn't use the map because the route is very well marked in yellow!)
We really enjoyed the long trail to Grézels and the little extra: the detour around the hamlet's castle
and the autumn colours of the Lot vineyards...
There are no views of the valley on the way back, so we took the car from Bélaye to Albas, crossed the footbridge and parked at Chemin des Pichets and...
climbed a beautiful path to reach the Col de Fages, where we enjoyed beautiful views of the valley and the meandering Lot River... a perfect end to our hike!
16 km of hiking pleasure in the Lot countryside.

Beautiful mountain biking and hiking trail, a little short in my opinion, and it's a shame you can't enjoy the view along the ridge.
But I'll do it again with a GPS so I don't get lost and can enjoy the view!

The Port de Grézels is listed as a possible addition. The Château de Lalande at the start of the route is another (point 5). The village of Bélaye is worth visiting at the start or end of the hike.
Between Grézels and Al Tuc, after point 8, a rock on the right seems to be part of a megalithic site (alignment, remains of a covered walkway?).

A very pretty hike, mostly on paths starting from a beautiful village overlooking the LOT.
In fact, this hike is marked in yellow. We followed these markings, which at point 7 took us up the path behind the church in Grézels and around the vineyards to enjoy a magnificent view of the Château de La Coste.
Thank you for this idea.
