Description of the route

Start from the marina on the Burgundy Canal at Venarey-les-Laumes.

(S/E) Take the D954 towards Semur, then take thefirst road on the right (D119).

(1) At the fork after the stream, continue to the right towards Les Granges-sous-Grignon. Pass through the village and continue on the D119v until you come to a small track branching off to the right, marked by a wayside cross on the right-hand side (somewhat hidden by vegetation).

(2) Follow this path until you reach the crossroads at the entrance to Grignon, with its central wayside cross.

(3) Carry on to the right and, at the next three-way junction, turn right again. Go round the castle and return to the village entrance.

(3) Carry on towards Lantilly. At the three-way junction, take the left-hand branch and join the D103.

(4) Cross the road and carry on straight ahead to Lantilly and its castle, which is said to have 100 windows.

(5) At the church, turn right towards Semur-en-Auxois (D103n).

(6) At the Haras de Vulsain, take the D9a and head for Villars.

(7) Turn right and head for Villenotte.

(8) Cross the D954, then after about 300 m leave the D9a and turn right onto a small tarmac road towards Saint-Euphrône. Cross a railway line (marked as a tourist route on the map, but unfortunately currently disused)

(9) At the left-hand bend, before Saint-Euphrône (with a wayside cross on the left-hand side), turn right onto a wide track leading to the D10c. Follow it to the right for 50 m, until you reach the road to Dijon (D970).

(10) Cross over to join the D103b opposite and follow it to a hairpin bend.

(11) Turn left onto the D103f and, at the next junction, take Rue du Lac on the left, which leads to the village and the Lac de Pont dam.

(12) Continue along this road (D103f), pass through Allerey and head for Flée.

(13) Turn left onto the D103h, towards Montigny-sur-Armançon. Join the D10 and follow it to the left. Pass through Montigny-sur-Armançon and continue to Villeneuve-sous-Charigny.

(14) Carry on along the D10 until you reach the Burgundy Canal cycle route.

(15) Cross the bridge and, immediately afterwards, turn left onto the greenway, heading towards Marigny-le-Cahouet.

(16) Pass Marigny-le-Cahouet on your right and continue along the canal.

(17) Ignore Pouillenay on your right and head for Venarey-les-Laumes.

(18) Turn left onto the D904, cross the canal and turn right straight away onto Rue de la Semur (S/E).

A lovely route with varied scenery.
Route completed on a gravel bike.
This route isn’t really suitable for this type of bike as there’s a lot of tarmac. It seems to me it would be better suited to a road bike ride with a few minor adjustments: follow the Burgundy Canal along the road from Villeneuve-sous-Charigny, climb directly to Grignon from Les Granges-sous-Grignon and pass through Saint-Euphrône to reach Massène.
