The departure and arrival points are hotels or lodges used by the tour operators. The route follows easy-to-follow cycle paths, as signs marked "Donauradweg" (Danube Cycle Path) are present throughout.
The route is dotted with small, friendly places to eat, ideal for cycle tourists. However, they are closed when the weather is bad.
The route starts in Linz, a charming medium-sized town and home of the famous Linzer Torte. Don't miss the Pöstlingberg hill overlooking the town, which offers magnificent views. To get there, take the little train that leaves from the Hauptplatz.
You will cross the Danube several times on the right or left bank via bridges or hydroelectric dams that are accessible by bike. There is even a small ferry dedicated to cyclists in Pyburg (€3.50 or €5.00 depending on your destination).
You arrive at the pretty village of Wallsee with its castle (not open to visitors).
