Heavenfield to Hexham - Way of Light

The 1st stage of this trail is a beautiful walk in Northumberland. It starts at the small church of St Oswald near Hadrian's Wall and crosses open countryside, passes through the village of Acomb before winding its way through Hexham to Hexham Abbey. There is so much to learn about the history of Northumbria along this walk.

A lovely walk from the Crossroads busstop in Low Burton. Enjoying the views, chirping skylarks, flowering gorse and the Celtic Crosses in the Oswald cemetery, you walk consistently downhill.
After arriving in Hexham, the visit to the mystical Saxon crypt in the abbey church is a special experience before we boarded the Northern train to Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
