Villes-sur-Auzon walks

A walk through stunning scenery with magnificent panoramic views. It’s good preparation if you’re planning to tackle Mont Ventoux a few days later.

A walk above Villes-sur-Auzon, towards the hamlet of La Lauze, through a field of solar panels, past the Pié Gros sheepfold and through two valleys, amidst a wide variety of vegetation and landscapes.

On mostly shaded paths, discover the combes and vallats of the Grand Défens, and the sheepfolds on the heights of Villes-sur-Auzon, with a magnificent view of Mont Ventoux.

A short loop above Villes-sur-Auzon offering beautiful views of the Monts de Vaucluse.

A circular eight-shaped loop between forest and heath that allows you to admire Mont Ventoux and discover evidence of pastoral life in days gone by (rain water reservoirs carved into rock, drystone shelters, etc.).

There is a plethora of routes, all with varied and unconventional signposting. In short, you can get lost! And you can even find some dangerous spots. On this safe hike, you'll admire some splendidly original landscapes, with colours ranging from blood red to golden yellow. An absolute must! This hike takes you through two magnificent Provençal villages: Blauvac, perched on a limestone ridge since the 12th century, with superb views of Mont Ventoux to the north and the Monts de Vaucluse to the south, and Méthamis, a historic village built on a rocky promontory at the exit of the Gorges de la Nesque, where traces of Neolithic dwellings were discovered during archaeological excavations. Descending from the summit of Gacholle towards Méthamis,the remains of drystone shelters, shepherds' shelters and sheep pens line the path. Information panels tell you about the harsh life of our ancestors.

Explore the mysterious Combe de Canaud, starting from the village of Flassan. This walk offers magnificent views, as well as the chance to discover old sheepfolds (known as ‘jas’ in the Provençal language).

Climbing the hill of Notre-Dame des Anges from the typical village of Mormoiron offers a magnificent view of the Giant of Provence (Mont Ventoux). The varied route includes an ascent that resembles a mid-range mountain. The asphalt descent on the return journey takes you back to the village of Mormoiron, facing the Ventoux, with all the villages at the foot of the Ventoux in view: Mormoiron, Flassan, Bedoin, Caromb, Villes sur Auzon, etc.

Discover the last valley in the southern foothills of Mont Ventoux before the Gorges de la Nesque. The route takes you to the amazing Saint-Jean Chapel, nestled in the heart of the Sault National Forest.

The hike allows us to explore the Mur de la Peste with its guardhouses and sentry boxes, starting from Méthamis, a beautiful Provençal village built on a rocky slope at the exit of the Gorges de la Nesque. The wall was restored in the 1990s over a distance of approximately 500 m. We also discover the Indochinese Trail and its history. A superb ridge with magnificent views of Mont Ventoux, the Monts de Vaucluse, the Luberon and the Gorges de la Nesque. Pretty little valleys on the way back. Various species of trees, including Atlas cedars in the forest.

A hike starting from the village of Méthamis, following several GRP® routes, including the Mont Ventoux Massif trail, then the Grande Combe de Lioux, the GRP® de la Pierre en Vaucluse to the beautiful village of Murs, then the GRP® des Monts de Vaucluse and the GR®91. It offers numerous views of the Ventoux, the Luberon and the Carpentras plain to the Dentelles de Montmirail, and even as far as the Lozère mountains in the distance towards the end of the route.You’ll walk through a variety of landscapes, starting with gorges over riverbed pebbles, then through woodland, a track with views, a few stretches of road (though very quiet), a forest track descending into valleys, and stony paths... This route is physically demanding, not only because of its length and elevation gain, but also due to two technical sections: between (18) and (19), descending to the Gorges de Vaumale, and then between (30) and (31), stony descents that require great care.

Hike through the Monts de Vaucluse to reach the pretty village of Méthamis, with extraordinary views of Mont Ventoux. A challenging out-bound leg with some steep climbs and a gentle return to the starting point, in the commune of Malemort-du-Comtat.
