Description

(S) From North East Carpets, walk along Johnson's Street (southwest), towards Wingate Welfare Park, the Medical Centre should be on your right and North East Carpets on your left. When the road splits at the allotments, you can take either track, the official one is to the right, going straight on will bring you past the sports pitches and up some steps to St Mary's School. Walk past the school and into Wingate Welfare Park. Stay on the main wide footpath through the park.

(1) At the far side there is a slope and steps. Turn right here onto the tarmac path (southwest) and continue until you reach the houses.

(2) Turn left and walk up the footpath behind the houses to Wingate Road.

(3) Cross Wingate Road, turning right and then left onto the public footpath between the houses. If you have time, walk 150m further along Wingate Road to the War Memorial Garden, then retrace your steps to the public footpath. Follow the field boundary, either in a straight line or follow the official route marked on the map until you reach the farm and then turn right onto Low Dyke Street and into Low Hogg Street. Keep left and walk to Horse Close Lane.

(4) After approximately 40m you will see a bench and the stone bearing the name Trimdon Colliery, turn right here along the track. This will follow the edge of the trees, first in a westerly direction then turning southwest following the hedgerow before entering another wooded area, Cleveland Gorse. The path will emerge onto Horse Close Lane again, turn right and follow the road for approximately 250m.

(5) When you reach the bend in the road, you can either take the public footpath to your right, this is not the official route, but is better in wet weather, otherwise continue for 100m and then take the narrow path to your right along the fence line to the ponds. Both paths meet at the same point. From the official path, turn left between the 2 ponds, then right to walk along the path to the south of the River Skerne/Fishing Lake. At the end of the lake turn left (south) and continue to walk along the field boundary/hedgerow until you emerge onto Front Street in Trimdon. Turn right passing the Back Bull, and pause at the church of St Mary Magdalene.

(6) Cross the road from the church and stop to read the information board with information about the Way of Love. Turn to your left and pass the 3 bungalows, then turn right onto the public footpath. Follow this across the fields (north) crossing the River Skern again.

(7) At the end of the path you will pass Trimdon Grange Working Men's Club and emerge onto Northside Terrace, turn left and walk to St Alban's Church (E)
