Whiteside summit

Description

Start: Lanthwaite car park on the B5289, (CA13 9UY). Grid ref. NY 159 207

(S/E) Exit car park to cross the B5289 road and take the path in the field that goes left (North-East) in the direction of the river. At the bridge cross the river, then go straight for around 50 m.

(1) At the junction, take right.

(2) Take left after 100 m to take the path going up in the direction of Whiteside summit passing Whin Ben on the way.Do not take the path on the right closer to the river that will be used on the way back;

(3) Once at the top of Whiteside summit follow the path going straight in the direction of Hopegill Head. Continue on this path for around 1.6 Km until reaching Hopegill Head summit.

(4) Once at the top of Hopegill Head summit, continue straight on the path going down in the direction of Hobcarton Crag.

(5) Then go right (South-West) in the direction of Coledale Hause. Continue straight for around 1 Km until reaching Coledale Hause and seeing the waterfalls of Liza Beck river.

(6) At the top of Liza beck river, go right to take the path that goes (North-West-West) down following the river. There are several waterfalls on this path and small pools to swim in summer. Continue on this path for around 2.5 km before the path is split into a lower path (on the edge of the river) and an upper path. It is possible to take both paths (there is a bit of scrambling on the lower path).

(7) If you are taking the upper path continue on it until reaching the initial path. Arriving at the intersections of paths (2) take left to continue going down in the direction of the bridge.

(If using the lower path, continue straight along the shore of the river until seeing the bridge to cross the river.)

Pass the bridge and cross the field to return to the car park (S/E)
