(S/E) From Well village, head down the hill passing the red phone box until you meet the clearly signposted way marker to the left (North-North-West).
(1) Turn left and follow the track with the brook on your right. Continue until you reach the embankment that forms part of the disused railway line.
(2) Turn left - note that in winter it is better to stay on the top of the embankment where the ground is drier, but in summer months it can be quite overgrown and difficult to traverse, in which case go down the other side and pick up the Mill Rundle Walk which runs parallel.
After approx 200m ignore the waymarker pointing to the right (North-East) and, instead, continue on your current path until you reach the outskirts of an urban/industrial area.
(3) Ignoring the gate to your front, turn left, following the Mill Rundle Walk markers and follow the brook until you meet the A1104 (Station Road).
(4) Carefully cross the road and turn left where you will see a footpath marker to the right (this is somewhat obscured by the bushes). Follow the enclosed track (North-West) which opens up into open fields with a hedgerow on your left.
Cross the footbridge which is marked and continue following the footpath until you reach the stile in a small thicket.
(5) Once over the stile turn left and navigate across the field to the South-West. Whilst this is waymarked, the path is not clearly defined so please choose a route which is sympathetic to the land owner.
At the end of the field, cross the stile to the right of the water trough and head up the hill diagonally left toward the chapel.
(6) Exit onto the country lane between the chapel and the cottages in Rigsby. Turn right up the hill and pick up the track to your left after 100m. Continue South-West until you reach the A1104.
(7) Carefully cross the road and take the footpath inside the edge of Dadley's Stone wood. Again, this can be overgrown in summer, but can be easily navigated if you keep the fence line to your right.
At the end of the wood, near the large wind turbine, the track bends to the left and then exits the wood over a stile after 100m.
(8) Cross the field heading South and past the wind turbine. Note that this field is home to livestock so dogs must be kept under close control. Pass through the gate and turn right, continuing on your southerly path until you come to the farm buildings at Ulceby Grange.
(9) Turn left here onto the farm track until you meet a track junction near a small copse.
(10) If you want a shorter walk, continue East along this well-established path which will take you through the woods and back to your start point via waypoint (14).
For a longer walk turn right (South) along the concrete track. Walk past the large log piles and follow the track immediately right and down the steep slope. Turn left and follow the track, contouring along the hill before descending to the obvious tree line which borders the cultivated field.
(11) Pass through the gate onto the tarmac road and turn left onto the lane (Psalter Road).
(12) At the road junction, take the path to your left, up the hill alongside Field Cottage. Continue ascending, past Fordington Wood and bear right where the track continues with a hedgerow to your left.
Turn left through the opening into the wood (again, the signpost is hidden in the trees) where you will see some route markers for the Well Vale Country Ride.
Turn left after marker post 20 and continue down the lane which can be boggy in places. There are a number of fallen trees along this lane, (and across it) which make for some interesting photos.
At the track junction go straight ahead and down the hill, following the blue Well Vale Country Ride marker (this may not be marked on the map).
(13) At the bottom of the hill you will meet a well-established track, turn left, heading North-West. Walk along this track until you reach the track cross roads and turn right up the hill, picking up the same route you would have been on if you chose the shorter option.
(14) Follow the track for 500m where you will reach a gate and head down the hill into the village at your starting point in Well village. (S/E)
