Turkey Gate Holme Chapel

Description

(S/E) Start at Towneley Hall. Food and parking are available in hall grounds. Head south-east along the road in front of the fountain. At end of the road turn east and take the path into grounds.

(1) Take gate onto Towneley Farm and follow the path south-east. Take kissing gate onto Park Road and follow the road south-east to the main road.

(2) Turn west briefly along the main road and cross to the footpath on the south of the road. Take the path south-east around the south of the house. Pass under the railway bridge to a stile on another side. Cross stile and head south across the field on a diagonal to stile in the wall. Head south across the field to a stile on another side. Head south-west down the slope to beck Head west along the north side of the beck to gate onto a farm track.

(3) Turn south-east along the track. Pass through the gate at pathway junction and continue south-east on the path between buildings. Take gates in front of the farmhouse and follow the path south-east. Pass through the gate and then bear south-east on track.

(4) Pass under railway then turn north. Follow the path north to the main road. The path passes Ram Inn, worth a visit.
Cross Burnley road and head briefly east to school on the opposite side. Take lane north on the west side of the school. Leave Holme Chapel Lane and take farm track northeast.

(5) Take bridleway north between walls. Pass through the metal gate and follow path north on the east side of the cottage.

(6) Briefly take the road east to farm buildings. Leave the road and take track north beside the farm. Use the gate on the west side of the barn and follow farm track north. Cross wall on the east side of the path and head northeast. Use sile to cross fence and head north towards the pylon. Cross stile and head north to Burnley Way path.

(7) Head north-west on Burnley Way along the south of the wall. Pass through the gate heading north-west on well-made track which becomes a road.

(8) Enter meadow by a stile and head south-west to the main road. Take stile and cross road to follow footpath west through the field on the opposite side of the road. Cross pair of stone steps and head West along North of the wall.

(9) Cross pair of stiles on the north side of the wall and turn north-west on the south side of the fence.

(10) Pass through both sets of gates and take the path west down towards Towneley Hall. Cross the stile and follow the path down the slope. Take footbridge over the river and head north-west along the edge of the sports field. Take the gate and path to head north-west to the main drive.

(11) Head south on the drive back to Towneley Hall.(S/E)

A good walk but very muddy underfoot in some places, especially section 2.
it would be much better in dry conditions
