Description

We'll be ending this trek constantly heading due south.

Take the large trail (S) heading towards the valley and reaching a large square used for storing hydraulics materiel (1). Then start an uphill climb towards Bertol shelter(2).

Continue on the other side, taking advantage of the handrails alongside the rocks leading to the end of the glacier which is nothing more than a scree nowadays (3).

Then set off on a long walk following the cairns and weather station sign posts. When you get to the trail crossing (4) ignore the left-hand trail leading to Bouquetins shelter, clearly visible. Take a right, passing the moraine and reaching the glacier (5). Put the crampons on now as it's going to get slippery, heading over a relatively easy crossing reaching Collon Pass, highest point of the stage (3069 m) (6).

Keep to this level at the beginning of the descent, walk along the glacier and at the next turn (7), start your long hike downhill. Leave the trail leading to the Nacamulli shelter to the right (8), keep heading south passing two sites called Grand Place (9) and Grand Oren (10) before finding Place à Moulin Lake at Praz Mondzou Desot (11).

Start the final stretch which today ends at Prarayer shelter (13).

"After a delicious evening meal, a fabulous night and an equally exquisite breakfast, the time has come to make your way back to the car park, to do so, refer yourself to the first stage description and ... head in the opposite direction."

Useful Information

It's the last stage of the hike. Probably the most difficult as it's long and at least an hour is spent on the glacier which isn't easy for those of you not used to working with crampons. However this stage gives you the chance to get close to the mountain and explore the wanders that nature has moulded at these heights.
