Description

(S/E) Park considerately on the outskirts of Titchmarsh village then take the Roman Road heading eastwards. After a few hundred yards follow the footpath to the right over open fields. The route is clearly visible - in most areas - thanks to the efforts of farmers in keeping the recognised pathways free of crops. Use smalls copses as shown on the map to navigate by.

(1) After about 3 km, cross a wooden gangway over a stream and turn right onto a well-founded dirt track, heading southwest towards large electricity pylons in the distance.

(2) Turn left just short of the pylons and walk parallel to a drainage ditch, crossing the obstacle at a wooden bridge.

(3) Turn left at a tree line and proceed for a further kilometre until reaching a disused piece of farm machinery.

(4) Turn right, proceeding southeast along an enclosed pathway until reaching an opening on the left into fields. Turn left, following the edges of fields bordering the RAF Molesworth security fence for about 2 km until reaching a pond near a small square wood. Turn left and proceed to a made-up road where you turn right leading to a cluster of farmhouses at a T junction.

(5) Turn left and follow the quiet tarmac road, enjoying the expansive views of the countryside, heading back towards Titchmarsh (S/E)

This is a nice walk but:most of the paths are:

  • unmarked
  • some are difficult to find

Here some further explanation that might help:
During point 1: the path is not well marked. Stick to the GPX! its quite accurate.
Before you reach point (1) (approximately 750 meter before point 1) make sure that the hedge is on your LEFT (you are right to the hedge)

On point 2: there are TWO wooden bridges! Both are difficult to find!

  • the first is about 100 meter after the road turns left (about 700 meter after point 2)
  • the second wooden bridge is about 200 meter from the first one. You may see it in the hedge on your right side. Keep close to the hedge.

From the second bridge and until point 3, the path is not marked at all!

Point 4 - should start with: turn right immediately AFTER the disused piece of farm machinery

Also RAF Molesworth fence should be on your right! bad preserved path!

I hope it helps
Not recommended for winter. Perhaps for summer! But not the best walk all together!
