Description

(S/E) From The INN For All Seasons front door turn right and then right again past the residents’ entrance. Exit the car park into the garden and keep left through a gate into a wooded area.

(1) Bear right of the old quarry mounds to a stile into a scrubby area; keep to the right to reach a metal trough and a stile into open fields. Walk down the right-hand side of the field, ignoring a stone stile on the right (the return route).

Follow the field edge as it bears left, then cross a grassy area to the left of some farm buildings to meet another hedge. Follow the right-hand edge of the next field, turning left along the bottom to emerge in a corner by a bus stop.

(2) Pass the Fox Inn and cross the river, and a second bridge a little further on. Walk up the hill beyond until you reach the iron gates of Barrington Park.

Turn right through the gates of the Home Buildings opposite, and then immediately left through a field gate. Bear right to a hand gate and follow the path beyond until you emerge onto a back lane at a corner.

Turn left and walk up to the war memorial; turn right here and follow the main village street. Beyond the telephone kiosk and just after the village noticeboard, turn right down a metalled alleyway to the left of a small cottage.

(3) On emerging in Middle Lane, turn right, then shortly left into a field beyond the Village Hall. Walk down the field alongside the Village Hall wall, then bear right down the hill towards Barrington Mill. Join the drive and turn left. Follow on-site signs through the mill surrounds to exit by a footbridge over the mill-stream.

(4) Follow the fenced footpath to a second footbridge and the end of a lane. For a shortcut to the village green, turn right along a footpath (see map), but to visit Little Barrington church turn left along Minnow Lane. Follow the lane round to the right to a junction, where you turn right.

(5) Pass the church and keep along the road to the village green. Turn left and walk up the road, ignoring a turning onto the green on your right. Beyond the last house, join a footpath over a stile on the right and walk up the field edge. Cross a wooden stile followed by a stone slab stile, then turn left and retrace your steps to the Inn for All Seasons. (S/E)
