Description

(S/E) Starting at the Railway Inn, cross the A368 and almost opposite the crossing point, walk up the narrow footpath. When you reach Hill Road, turn right and walk up the hill for about 50 yards. Cross the road and take the footpath on the left. Bearing right, walk up the hill and take the right fork up a steep climb into the woods.

(1) Enter woods and follow the path on your left all the way along the valley until reaching Sandford Levy. There, bear right and keep going to Lyncombe Lodge.

(2) On reaching tarmac road, walk down the hill to left, continue under a footbridge and start climbing on a track. At the junction, head south until you reach Mapleton Lane.

(3) Enter open grassland and climb up the hill onto Mapleton Lane/The Mendip Trail until the path meets Pyelwell Lane. Here, turn right and walk along this track and into a field, climbing past the site of Roman Villa. When it meets again The Mendip Trail, turn left.

(4) Follow the path going downhill past Quarry Road and disused lime kilns. When reaching Hill Road, turn right and walk downhill until you reach a footpath sign on left.

(5) Take this path on the left. Immediately after, turn right and walk to Station Road passing by Roman Road. Cross over A368 and turn right, continuing back to the starting point at Railway Inn.(S/E)
