Saint Kilda beach - Stenhouse Reserve, Melbourne

Start the walk in front of the famous Luna Park, and enjoy the beachside, the pier with views of the boats. If you go in the evening, you might be able to spot some penguins before enjoying Catani gardens and the Stenhouse Reserve to observe the colorful wind kite surfers at sunset.

Description

Start : Luna Park entrance. (St Kilda VIC 3182)

(S/E) With your back to the famous Luna Park, walk left crossing the road past the theatre on Lower Esplanade. Cross the big car park towards the traffic lights at 33 road towards the St Kilda beach.

(1) Cross Jacka Boulevard at the traffic light to enter the little garden in front of you. Keep straight to walk under Canatni Archway and read the Bay Trail at some wooden structures. You are now facing the beach. Turn right and walk along the seaside past Saint Kilda Sea Baths on your right hand. Walk up to the pier in front of you.

(2) When you get to the start of the pier, here you can take a detour on your left to visit the penguin at down or even enjoy the incredible sunset over the skyline and boats.

If you do, walk all the way to the end of the pier to enjoy the penguin. For a great view, turn right at the end of the pier to get to the boat mooring area and enjoy the Kite surfer dancing in the wind. After, walk back to the start of the pier.

Otherwise, carry straight on the pavement along the seaside past Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron on your right. Just after the building, turn right to enter Cantani Gardens and its beautiful palm trees.

(3) After a few paces into the garden, turn left toward the kiosk. Walk past the kiosk on your right and carry straight on in the same direction (North-West) towards the main garden entrance at the traffic light of 33 Beaconsfield Parade main beach road. At the road junction, turn left on Pier Road towards the beach.

(4) Just before the left bend, find a footpath on your right. Walk in the sand with the wall on your left-hand then cross the wooden bridge over the water to enter Stenhouse Reserve. Follow the wooden path as it curves right and take a stopover on the way to the wooden bench. Here you have a quite spot to enjoy an incredible sunset. Then carry on along the wooden path past West Beach Bathers Pavillion and the watersport rental on your left-hand back to the waypoint (4).

When you reach Pier Road again, walk back to Catani Gardens entrance again. Turn right and walk again past the kiosk across the garden. You can also take the alternative footpath left along the 33 road to get a new perspective of the garden as long as you reach the beautiful tree at waypoint past Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron but this time on your right-hand side.

(5) Walk past the pedestrian bridge on your left to read saint Kilda Sea Baths road entrance. Cross over the road with care to walk past the Baths entrance, across its car park towards the ice cream kiosk and Saint Kilda beach gardens. Carry straight on to the little garden with the Catani Archway you used on your way up. Turn left to reach the traffic light and cross 33 Jacka Boulevard again (Waypoint (1)) to walk back to the Luna Park entrance. (S/E)
