Description

(S/E) From St Stephen's church, walk East down the path parallel to Thorpe Lane. Follow the signposts saying “The Cleveland Way” North out of the town. When you reach Station Road (B1447), turn left.

(1) Past The Grosvenor pub on your right, turn right on Mount pleasant North. When the road starts to curve on the left, go straight ahead on the path. Stay on Old Lance cliff path with the sea on your right hand-side.

(2) At some junctions keep straight ahead along the cliff.

(3) When you reach the signpost for the Coast2Coast walk turns inland (South West) away from the coast at Maw Wyke Hole. Follow this path through the caravan park (Northcliffe Holiday Park) and follow Bottoms Lane until you get to the Cinder track.

(4) Turn left onto the cinder track and follow this route back to your starting point at St Stephen's church. (S/E)

Lovely walk along the coast path then back along the disused railway. If anything the views from the Cinder Path were better than the coast path because of being higher up. Definitely worth a stop in the campsite cafe after the steep climb - good cakes! Also should walk down into Robin Hood's Bay after the walk - very picturesque old fishing village with lots of narrow streets and alleyways.

Excellent directions. Good views from clifftop. Steep walk through caravan park so cafe was a welcome place to recover! Nice walk back along Cinder Path.
