Description

Start : Shoreham Train Station. Sevenoaks (TN14 7RT)

(S) From the Station, turn right (West) on Station Road.

(1) Walk around 160 m to arrive at the Darenth Golf Club. Here, you can deviate from Station Road to have a peek at the Golf Course and the Country House. Then retrace your steps to get back to Station Road.

Otherwise, continue walking up the road (West) in direction of Shoreham Village.

(2) After 320 m you arrive at St Peter & Paul Church. ''Here you can take a detour from the main road entering the churchyard to have a look at the church. Exit the churchyard back to the road."

Otherwise, walk along Church Street then follow Darenth Way heading North alongside the River Darent. After walking 320m on Darenth Way from the Church, the road changes into a footpath. Take this footpath and continue your walk alongside the River Darent. Walk another 320 m to find a bridge. Cross the bridge left and turn right at the end of it to continue (North) on the footpath on the opposite side.

(3) The path then crosses Mill Lane to join a footpath on the opposite side. Continue (North East) along the riverside.

(4) After 530 m, the path diverts from the River Darent and the landscape turns from woodlands to endless cornfields. Continue (North-North-East) on the footpath across fields. After 820 m, you arrive at the end of the cornfields onto Redmans Lane. Cross the lane to find another footpath entrance on the opposite field. Walk across the field for 160 m. It is not easy to find it, so if you miss it you can continue by walking alongside Redmans Lane.

(5) When you come face to face with a signpost indicating "Castle Farm & the Hop Shop", here you have the choice to make a detour.

If you do so, cross right over Redmans Lane and follow the arrow on the signpost to Castle Farm. Follow the arrows until you reach the Hop Shop. Unlike its name, the shop does not sell hop but specialised in lavender-based products as well as local products and home decoration. Take the time to go around the shop then come out of the "Castle Farm & Hop shop" the same way you took to get in. Once you reach the crossing between the car park and the main road, turn right (North East) onto Castle Road. To avoid walking on the side of a countryside road, you can go back to the footpath going through the field opposite you on Redmans Road.

Otherwise, walk on the footpath alongside Castle Road for 160 m and then take the footpath left which diverts away from the road. You might not see it, due to the vegetation, but the footpath goes alongside Lullingston Castle lake. You can try and take a peek at the beauty of the lake between the branches.

After walking for approximately 650 m in a wooded area by the lake, you arrive at Lullingstone Castle and the World Garden entrance and carpark .

(6) Here, you can take some time to visit the Castle and the Garden (home of a variety of plants from all around the world). After the visit, go back to the road in front of the main entrance.

Otherwise, continue straight ahead (North) on the road in front of the Castle's main entrance. Walk around 640 m to arrive at the Lullingstone Roman Villa (inside those walls you find the remains of a villa dated 100 AD).

(7) You can go and visit the site or stay on Lulligstone Lane (North East). After 800 m you face the 23m meter-high Eynsford Viaduct. Continue on Lulligstone Lane to walk underneath the viaduct.

(8) Past the viaduct, the road curves East. Follow it alongside the River Darent for 320 m later to arrive at Eynsford, Kent village.

Walk across a stone bridge over the ford and arrive in front of St Martin's Church. Turn left (North East) onto the High Street (A225) and walk for 320 m to arrive at the Castle Hotel where you end this walk for a meal.(E)

Otherwise, to reach the train station, turn left. Eynsford train station is located 1 km (South West) down the High Street (A225) from the restaurant.
