Description

(S) From Pershore take the B4084 towards Evesham. Just on the outskirts, go over the River Avon and turn immediately left into Pershore Bridge Car Park.

Leave the car park by crossing the River Avon on the old bridge used by Cromwell. Cross the B4084 and go left to find a kissing gate in the railings just before the new bridge. Take steps down to go with River Avon on your left.

(1) Follow the bank of the Avon for 1/2 mile to cross a foot bridge and go ahead to cross a second foot bridge and go ahead for a further 1/2 mile to find a third foot bridge. Take this double gated foot bridge and go ahead to take a further double gated footbridge. Immediately go right with the hedge right to take the gate, then a further gate to the road.

(2) Go right on the main road and at garden centre cross the road and go up slope by a house called ***The Farthings marked as a Bridle path.

(3) At the top of the lane go through a five bar gate to the right of Woodmans Cottage. Go ahead on a grassy vehicle track between light fencing to find a wooden gate. Take the gate into the ancient Tyddesley wood and go ahead down the bridle path through wood.

Cross the logging road and continue through the wood, ignoring side paths and maintain the line down to the bridge over Bow Brook.

(4) Go through a kissing gate and up the field with a deep ditch right to take the gate at the top corner of the field to the road. This is Salters Lane. Go left for 50 paces and take the gap right. Turn 1/2 right and go across the field to the field edge. Go left with the hedge right ignoring the bridge right. Just before the field corner, take the stream double bridge right.

After 50 paces turn left through the gap into the field. Go diagonally right across the field centre to find a waymarked foot bridge to the right of a large oak tree. Cross the footbridge. Ahead over next field to find new footbridge 40 paces to the left of oak in the top right field corner. Cross the footbridge, go 1/2 left to find the field corner gap to the road. You are now at Crabbe Common T-junction.

(5) Turn left and follow the road direction Croome / Kempsey for 600 yards. Take the roadside hedge gap right. Head just to the right of a lone tree and at the far field edge find hedge stile and footbridge left. Cross the stile and footbridge and go 1/4 left across the field to find a hidden waymark post in the bushes at the wood edge.

Turn left keeping the wood right. After 150 yards come to a road. Go right 20 paces and then left on a grassy bridleway into Croome Perry Wood.

(6) Turn right as the bridleway does and carry on with the main body of the wood on your left. Exit the wood to the grassy track and then go ahead to join the road into Wadborough. Enter Wadborough village and pass the Masons Arms on your left.

Go 100 yards past the pub and take a stile right. Take the footpath ahead to cross several fields and stiles with the hedge right to find the stile to the road (you will encounter electric fences in this section. Please look carefully for the insulated handles with a hook that enables safe passage through this electric fencing - please DO NOT attempt to climb over the fencing). Turn right for 200 yards and just before the house right find a gateway left .

(7) Take a gateway and go right along the field edge with the hedge right to pass to the rear of houses. At the field corner remain in this huge field and continue along the field edge with the woods right, over the far corner stile. Go ahead still with the woods right and over the stile and ahead to the end of the woods. There are old horse jumps in this section.

Continue ahead with the hedge right and go through the dense undergrowth to find a bridge over the ditch. Ahead to lone tree, then aiming to the left of red roofed house to find a gap with rough vehicle way. Go ahead down the vehicle way to come to tarmac drive, over the stream to the road.

(8) Go left on the road. Pass Feli's Bar and Restaurant on your left. The route goes uphill until you meet the B4084. Keep on until the crossroads where you turn right into Church Lane to St. Edmund's Church Stoulton. (E)

Useful Information

Maps : Ordnance Survey Map - Landranger 150 - Explorer 190

Please note: After heavy rain the start of the route, which follows the river for over a mile, is sometimes closed due to flooding and/or damage to bridges. If so, an alternative route is to pass the first kissing gate in the railings and continue up Bridge Street towards the town, shortly to reach the Toll House left.
Take the cut through by the side of the Toll House to arrive in Nogains. Continue along to reach Defford Road (B4536) and turn left. Continue along the B4536 for just over half a mile to reach the main A4104. Turn left here for 200 yards, then take the public bridleway right, by a house called ***The Farthings and follow the instructions from Para waypoint (4).
