Description

(S)Limited on street parking is available in Oldbury-on-Severn (grid ref. ST608923). Please be careful not to block residents' access and park in a courteous manner. After parking locate the road bridge at the eastern end of Oldbury Pill and follow the Severn Way as it heads west to the Severn Estuary.

(1)The path is easy to follow and turns southwest with the river to your right. Continue along the Severn Way for just over one and a half miles to the junction of the Severn Way with the Jubilee Way (grid ref. ST582907) at Littleton Warth.

(2)Here turn left walking inland initially following a path but soon joining a track marked as Rushden Lane on maps. Rushden Lane leads you to the road through Littleton-upon-Severn. On reaching the road through the village (grid ref. ST594899), turn left and in 400 metres reach a T-junction (grid ref. ST597902).

(3)Take the footpath almost opposite and in a short distance bear half right across the field to the corner of a small wood (grid ref. ST601905). Continue across fields to reach a road at Cowhill (grid ref. ST606914). Bear left along the road and continue, passing St Arilda's church on your left, back to the start.

Enjoyed the walk very much. As we live in Chepstow, just over Severn Bridge in Wales. We drove to Aust and walked from there and picked up walk where it joins the Jubilee way. Surprised that a couple of people had a problem finding the correct side of the river to walk down, we found the instructions were pretty clear on this. Agree that in winter this route could be very muddy in places.

Nice easy walk, fairly flat, good mix of countryside and stroll by the river. Lovely pub at Littleton just over half way round

We found this walk a bit dull, as the Severn really isn't very interesting at this point. There was also no shade for the first half of the walk, on a hot day. We also encountered some cows blocking a gate and had to climb over a barbed wire fence. The pub near the end was lovely.

Great circular route with views of the Severn from lots of viewpoints. Advice about starting with your back to the Anchor Inn and going left was very helpful, otherwise would have gone the wrong way.

Easy to follow instructions along the Severn Estuary and then back inland. We did this in winter and it was extremely muddy in places - make sure you wear appropriate footwear!

Lovely peaceful walk. Eagrets buzzards Skylarks heron and many more small birds. Crystal clear views of the 2 severn bridges and the over the estuary to Wales. Only disappointment was the coffee shop was only open until lunchtime- it would have been great to have a post walk cuppa and cake

Good views over the Severn Estuary during first part of the walk. Back around fields and a road for return. Timing was about right.
Others had difficulty getting on the right side of the Severn Way - but following the map we found it straightforward.

The start in Oldbury-on-Severn was a little confusing. Someone directed us to the Severn Way and we walked for 15 minutes before realising we were on the wrong side of a river so had to retrace our steps back to the village, adding half an hour to the walk. It's important NOT to take the path opposite the Anchor Inn towards the yacht club. Instead, with your back to the Anchor Inn, turn left, on the opposite side of the road find the footpath by a sign for the Gingerbread House. That's your route!
