Description

Start : Mellon Country Hotel, 134 Beltany Rd, Omagh (BT78 5RA) The route is waymarked from here using yellow on blue Ulster Way signage.

(S) From the Mellon Country Hotel car park, turn right (South) on Beltany Rd. Walk 150m, reaching a small path on the left.

(1) Turn left on this path and reach a bridge over the Strule on your right.

(2) Once over the bridge, continue up a lane for around 360 m to join a minor road after five minutes.

(3) Turn right and follow the Carrigans road (C614) for approximately 1 Km.

(4) Turn left (North-East) on a countryside road between two sheep grazing lands. Always keep walking on the right side of the road. After 1 Km or so, you will reach Tattynure Road.

(5) Follow the cycle route on the right. Continue for around 200 m until the next junction to the left.

(6) Turn left on Golan Road. Pass the Omagh Packaging company on your left. Keep walking one other hundred meter ignoring the path to the left.

(7) At a stop panel, turn right (South-Esat) in Dunlan road, always following the cycle route. Follow this same route Southernly, passing over Cappagh Burn, for a little more of 2 Km. After those 2 Km, you reach a Junction between Dunmullan Road and Knockmoyle Road.

(8) Turn left (North-East) down Knockmoyle Road. After around 500 m, you will quickly reach the B48 Omagh-Gortin road.

(9) Turn left (North) and walk along the B48 for a short distance (100 m or so) before turning right onto a minor road that leads steeply uphill towards Glengawna and Gortin Glen Forest Park.

(10) After around 1.3 Km, the road becomes a forest track. Walk 700 m to a junction.

(11) Keep left (North) at track junctions and continue to climb. Around 4.4 Km from that junction, the forest track levels out, follow a smaller trail to the left through more forest before reaching a more significant forest trail and follow it down through the parking area of the forest park to the B48.

(12) Turn left (South-West) and walk downhill along the road for a short distance (150 m).

(13) Turn right (West) onto Lisnaharney Road. Follow this for around 500 m.

(14) Turn right (North) onto a forestry track. Follow the track uphill and over the shoulder of Crockanard before descending to the B48 once more. (Around 3 Km)

(15) Turn left (North) and walk 100 m along the B48 - Glenpark Road.

(16) Cross the road and turn right (East) onto Lenamore Road.

(17) After around 380 m, passing Boorin National Nature Reserve and the conspicuous twin lakes of New Lough and Oak Lough. After climbing steadily the road begins to descend steeply, with fine views of the Sperrin Mountains. At the bottom of the road it will be a Junction with the B46. (3.3 Km or so)

(18) Turn left (West) onto the B46 and walk West for 960 m along the road into the village of Gortin. (E)
