A short half day walk on old cobbled track through nature reserve and park. Initial gradual uphill section on unmade track, taking you to Stalybridge centre, to come back through nature reserve and park.

Description

(S/E) From the rear of Rising Moon car park walk down Early Bank Road a rough unmade track that turns into a stone cobbled track.

(1) At the fork with Yew Tree lane, continue right on Early Bank Road. Continue left on Early Bank, with a brick wall on your right. Ignore any ways into the Eastwood Nature Reserve on right.

(2) Emerge onto Hough Hill Road and continue down hill until you meet the main road (B6175).
At High St turn right go past the Labour social club on your right until you get to Park St.

(3) Turn right up Park St and go into Cheetham park. Continue up past the two children's play areas and follow signs for the country trail and into Eastwood Nature Reserve. Going round a circular path and passed Cheetham park shelter a brick-built building which should be on your left.

(4) Follow the narrow footpath above the brook going past the football ground on your left. Continue on this path slippy when wet until you emerge out of the trees to the edge of Dukinfield Golf Course.

Take the stile into the golf course and follow arrow half left around a green and bunkers to a junction of golf course paths, to another stile into a hedged way which can be boggy and at the time of this walk there was a new plantation of young trees.

Going past two ponds on your left and then across the field back to Rising Moon car park down Early Bank Road. (S/E)

Parking is available in the Rising Moon pub car park, on Matley Lane.

Refreshments are available in Stalybridge a short walk from waypoint (3) .

Walking boots are recommended as there are rough paths and tracks and was boggy and slippy in places when wet.

There are good transport links in Stalybridge so there is the option to start the walk at waypoint (3) .

At waypoint (3) you can divert into Stalybridge town centre where you will find a number of cafes and pubs for refreshments.

The newly developed canalside area of the Huddersfield Canal, is also worth a look.`

Cheetham park and the Eastwood Nature Reserve have a number of paths to further explore and 2 well equiped play areas if you are walking with children.

Stalybridge Celtic Football Club can be see through the trees at waypoint (4).
