Starting in the village of Killeter, this 1rst section of Bollaght Mountain Trail, part of The International Appalachian Trail (IAT), follows quiet country roads, areas of woodland, before picking up the Ulster Way on the northern slopes of Bollaght Mountain.

Description

Start : Killeter Post Office on Woodside Rd. (BT81 7EL)
The route is waymarked from here using yellow on blue Ulster Way signage.

(S) From Killeter Post Office, walk in a Southern direction in Main street. You will join Crillys Hill Road on your left.

(1) Take a left-hand turn onto the Crillys Hill Road, signposted for Ederney. Follow this road for 3 Km, skirting round the base of Crillys Hill on your left. At the end of the road, you will reach a junction with Aghnahoo Road.

(2) Turn left (North-East) onto the Aghnahoo Road. Continue for approximately 1 Km before reaching Glen Road.

(3) Turn right (South-East) onto the Glen Road and walk around 2 Km until you reach Creeduff Road.

(4) Turn right (East) onto the Creeduff Road, and continue around 710 m into the village of Killen. Reaching the B72.

(5) Turn left (North) to the Primary school parking (BT81 7SD) which is the end of this section. (E)

Driving to start : Killeter can be accessed by leaving the A5 between Strabane and Omagh, west towards Castlederg. Follow signs for Enniskillen and then Killeter after passing through Castlederg.

Arrival : Killen Primary School, 82 Learmore Rd, Killen, Castlederg (BT81 7SD)

Facilities : Killeter is a small village with a shop and a post office. After this there are no opportunities for refreshments until reaching the village of Killen at the end of the section. There are limited options for accommodation in Killeter.
