(S) From the southern end of Roker Harbour View Car Park follow the ECP brown signs to the marina. Alternatively from the car park walk up Pier View and turn left onto Harbour View, this will take you along the main road where you can look down on the Sunderland Marina. Walk around the Yacht Club to the Marina.
(1) Hugging the river bank, this is all paved until you reach a small car park.
(2). From here take the steps up toward the main road. Those unable to use the steps should follow Beacon Drive and Sand Point Road to the top of the steps. Turn left and take the path behind the petrol station following the path behind the petrol station and the houses. You will then pass the National Glass Centre and the University of Sunderland St Peter's Campus. Continue to the large yellow sign for the C2C cycle route, from here turn right and walk up Palmer's Hill Road and Bonners' Field until you reach the Wearmouth Bridge.
Turn left and cross the bridge. Take the first left at the end of the bridge down Bridge Crescent.
(4) At Panns Bank junction double back on yourself down to the river bank. When you reach the river bank, turn right and hug the river bank. Looking down the river here you will see the cranes used in shipbuilding, the University buildings and Glass Centre are visible on the opposite bank. When you can go no further along the river bank turn right and then left onto Low Street. The Fish Quay should be on your left. Continue along Low Street until you reach a small grassed area on your right.
(5) Follow one of the footpaths up to High Street East, turn left following the ECP sign then turn right into Hartley Street or walk a little further along High Street East for a closer look at the cranes, then turn right into Silver Street. At the end of either Hartley Street or Silver Street you will see the Town Moor. Skirt the Town Moor along Quadrant street.
(6) At the end of The Quadrant cross the road and follow Cousin Street (you have now left the England Coast Path and are heading into town). At the end of Cousin Street cross the road into Borough Road. Continue to follow Borough Road crossing the roundabout. At the end of Borough Road is the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. From here turn right into Fawcett Street to catch the E1 bus back to Roker Hotel where you can access the car park. Alternatively, continue down Fawcett Street to Wearmouth Bridge and walk along Dame Dorothy Street and Harbour View back to the car park. (E)
