England Coast Path - Amble to Druridge Bay Country Park

Amble marks the start (or end) of the England Coast Path, however this will be extended further into Northumberland in time. Amble is known as the 'friendliest port' and is a good place to explore before starting the walk along the dunes with stunning beaches and nature reserves to explore along the way.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: England Coast Path - North East Section South Bents to Amble

Description

(S) After you have explored Amble marina and harbour, walk along the South Jetty to the lighthouse.

(1) From the lighthouse, turn left and walk along the stone jetty until you reach the Coastguard Cottages.

(2) Walk along Bay View until you reach a small car park, turn right and follow the footpath down to the children's play park.

(3) Cross the park to the start of the dunes and take the narrow track over the dunes. You will need to pick your way through the multiple tracks here. Cross the access road to the car park and then continue past Amble East cemetery. As you continue to walk there will be another circular car park, next to a new housing development on your right and Wellhaugh Point, a rocky outcrop on your left. You will then pass another small car park in front of a caravan park.

(4) You will eventually arrive at yet another car park where the dune footpath rejoins Links road. Keep left as you walk down the road past the bus shelter and the no entry sign. Continue walking through the village of Low Hauxley until you reach another no entry sign, there is a signpost here for the footpath and the cycle route. Continue down this lane passing Hauxley Nature Reserve on your right.

(5) The footpath will join a narrow road at Togston Links, continue following this road passing another car park on your left and then the Hadston Boat Club to your right.

(6) Continue past the boat club and car park on the road. Walk past the first entrance to Druridge Bay Country Park, you will see a small marker with cycle path 1 on it. Continue down the road.

(7) When you come to the next entrance to the Druridge Bay Country Park on your right, you will also see a path to your left across the dunes to the beach, turn right here. Walk along this path into the trees, you will reach the visitor centre at Druridge Bay Cournty Park and car park. (E)

Useful Information

  • Transport: You can park at either Druridge Bay Country Park or Amble Harbour. Arriva buses X20 (Newcaslte to Alnwick) and X18 (Newcastle to Berwick) run from Hadston to Amble.
  • Facilities: There are toilets and cafes in Amble itself and at the Druridge Bay Visitor Centre, but little during the walk.
  • Accessibility: As the majority of this walk is on sand dunes it is not particularly accessible. However by following Links Road from Amble to Low Hauxley may make this possible as an accessible route, however the beach and sea will be hidden from view.

Always stay careful and alert while following a route. Visorando and the author of this walk cannot be held responsible in the event of an accident during this route.
