Description

(S/E) Starting from Cornwood Square, head NE passing Cornwood Village Stores. Continue on the lane to Vicarage Bridge. Continue on road, ignoring left turn to Yeo, past Wisdome Farm. Continue uphill for about 1km.

(1) At Hall Cross (signposted) take the track to right. Continue on stony track to gate. Pass through the gate and follow the line of short blue posts across Hangar Down.

(2) Before you reach the end of the line of posts, strike out across the Moor to the right. Find a gate to the footpath in the boundary wall.

(3) Follow a narrow path downhill between stone walls.

(4) When the path emerges on the lane, turn left to follow the lane to Hangar Cottage. Turn right just past Hangar Cottage and take lane downhill to Coriander Cottage at Moor Cross.

(5) Turn right onto the road to return to Cornwood Square.(S/E)

This walk starts in the quaint small village of Cornwood that sits on the edge of Dartmoor. Parking is available on the roadside near the school or if you are using the pub then their car park. The walk starts off evenly along tarmac roads before you ascend up a dirt track into the woods. This track is awkward under wet conditions. You continue to climb up through the woods until eventually you reach a farmers field which is known as Hanger Down. The views from you are wonderful, weather permitting of course. Following the blue markers on your left it eventually leads off Hanger Down into small lanes until you reach a main road. From here its nice and even using lanes and backroads through a few quiet hamlets to complete your full circle. I rate this walk as GOOD. It is quiet and not too taxing.
