(S/E) Briefly head North along Hawes Avenue before taking steps East (right) and very carefully crossing A571 to make way to the North end of Oyo Hotel car park. Take the path East at the North End of the Oyo Hotel down to the waterside and then turn North (left) to follow the path beside Carr Mill Dam. Take path East (right) towards the lake. Continue North on the path beside the lake.
(1) Follow path East (right) as it crosses multi span bridge. Turn south (right) and follow the path as it follows the curve of the lake. Take path East (left) away from the lake along banks of The Goyt watercourse.
(2) At Y junction, take path southwest (right) through woodland. Follow Garswood Old Road South beside the lake. Take path South (left) downslope, under the railway bridge and then beside Black Brook.
(3) Continue South on the path beside the brook. Sankey Valley Visitor Center is first left here and worth a visit for the history of Sankey Canal. Carefully cross Blackbook Lane to pick up the path beside the canal.
(4) Take footbridge West (right) over the canal. Briefly turn West along Park Road before carefully crossing the road to take the path over weir then along West bank of the canal. Turn North (right) along Islands Brow.
(5) Take path East (right) next to utility cabinet up the steep slope to wooded plateau and follow path South. At the junction of paths take path northeast (left) through woodland. Follow path South (right) around East side of the pond, narrow in places but passable. Carefully cross Laffak Road and briefly head South (right).
(6) Turn East (left) along Paisley Avenue then first left down Renfrew Avenue. Follow footpath East off-road.
(7) At bottom of steps downturn North (left) along a well defined path.
(8) At top of the slope turn West (left) along Garswood Road passing in front of Toby Inn to carefully cross Carr Mill Road. Take steps upslope and turn West (left) back to start. (S/E)
