Walk through the small market town of Market Bosworth, a stroll by the canal, and a walk through fields that may have been fought over in the Battle of Bosworth; the last significant battle of the war of the roses in 1485.

Description

(S/E) Leave Market Bosworth Country Park car park turning left on The Park road towards the town. Keep left when the road becomes "Rectory Lane". Walk along the public footpath through the town centre turning right into Market Place and then left onto Station Road.

(1) Follow Station Road for a couple of miles gently downhill along the public footpath until you get to a 'newish' small traffic island, past Market Bosworth train station on your left. Carry on for a short distance until you cross the canal bridge.

(2) Jump onto the canal towpath on your left and walk South, with the canal on your left, for a couple of miles until you reach bridge number 35 over Shenton lane.

(3) Leave the canal, cross the bridge on your left (Shenton Lane) and walk a short distance to Shenton Station car park on your right (where the heritage line still runs trains).

(4) Turn right into Shenton Station and cross the railway line using the pedestrian gates. Then, follow the pathway signs gently up hill to the Bosworth battlefield centre.

(5) Leave the centre using the footpath located on the other side of the centre along the side of a hedge across a field and go North East until you reach Ambion Lane.

(6) Turn right on Ambion Lane and walk up to Bosworth Rd where you turn right.

(7) After a few meters, take a left up a gravel path with St James church on your right until you reach a right-angled turn in the path.

(8) The path goes to the right but you go through the gap in the hedge on the left and follow the path across the field (North). Continue across the fields downhill past a pound then Spring wood edge on your left-hand side; and then back uphill following the yellow footpath signs until you are back in the Market Bosworth Country park.

We didn’t choose the best day to do this walk as it was raining and very very muddy! We will go back and do this walk again in the summer as it was a lovely walk. There are some parts when you have to walk on the road as no footpath, but only short distance. Took us just over 3 hours.
